Our heritage as memorial designers For over 100 years, five generations of our family have worked as designers, sculptors and stone carvers in the North Clark Street studio opened in 1880 by Engelbert Gast. Trained in Bavaria as a sculptor, Engelbert’s tradition of memorial art and craftsmanship is carried on today by members of the Gast family. We are Chicago’s oldest monument builder. Our reputation as designers A number of cemeteries across the country have commissioned us to design and carve commemorative sculptures and shrines. We have received international recognition for these major works of art. These same artistic skills and dedication are applied to every memorial we design. We believe that a memorial should reflect the unique qualities of the person or family for whom it has been created. Accordingly, we work with you in the selection of an appropriate and personalized memorial. A great many of our designs have been copy-righted and cannot be duplicated.
